Unsigned Debut: How long have you guys been rapping?
DS: Lets just say its been months and not years..
DF: But we’ve been fortunate that things have worked out as well as they have.
Unsigned Debut: So what is a typical day like in the life of the ChalkBoyz?
DF: For breakfast grits and lobster tail. Often we have power lunch meetings with our managers. In the nighttime, we prefer house parties.
DS: Wake up to half naked women feeding me grapes. Go play two games of racquetball, and then its off to the booth.
Unsigned Debut: What sparked your interest in music?
DS: Big Fame and big chains
DF: My dad made me do this.
Unsigned Debut: How did you come up with the name ChalkBoyz?
DF: We had front row tickets to a Cleveland Cavs game,.Lebron unveiled his new ritual of throwing up chalk in the air, except it landed all over us and people started saying, “Look at those chalk boys!”
Unsigned Debut: lol, Nice!
Unsigned Debut: On the track That’s the Chalkboyz, it starts with “These White boys are making big noise,” do you think people may doubt your skills because you’re white?
DS: Its hard to get the respect, but definitely not hard to get the attention.
Unsigned Debut: Why is it hard to get respect? Do you feel as if you have to prove yourself in order to gain respect from the hip-hop lovers?
DS: We really respect hip hop, and we still have a lot to prove.
DF: Yeah, you have to give respect to get it, but we really stay true to who we are.
Unsigned Debut: Have you seen a great amount of success?
DS: I haven’t seen A Great Amount of Success, but I have seen The Pursuit of Happiness.
DF: That was a good one Staxx! Yeah, this started as a joke, and now people ride around listening to our music, its crazy.
Unsigned Debut: Why do you think that is?
DF: We come from a close knit community, and people have been so supportive of us. Shout out to Webster Groves.
DS: We have a very strong fan base that is always waiting for what’s next.
Unsigned Debut: What is the crowd like at shows?
DF: Beautiful white college girls in sundresses that can dance like Beyonce.
DS: Crazy!
Unsigned Debut: What exactly do you guys rhyme about? Is it hardcore? Emo? Hipster?
DS: Being raised in the suburbs, we don’t know much about “Pushin weight.” We just stay true to what we know, our music has a lot of metaphors and punch lines. It has its own sense of humor.
Unsigned Debut: On your MySpace page you guys are spitting to industry beats, what do you think that lets listeners know?
DS: I think it showcases our talent over a beat that is already recognizable to the ear.
DF: We take other artists beats, and turn them into our own masterpiece. Some listeners think that they’re original songs.
Unsigned Debut: Do you have any tracks with original beats?
DF: Yes, the newest one is called “Got it like That” and can be found on our myspace. “Chrome Lipz” is my personal favorite original song.
DS: We are always working on something new. Right now, we are working on a couple collaborations.
Unsigned Debut: Who are some of the producers you guys have worked with?
DS: We are working on a project with two time St.Louis producer of the year Laudie.
DF: I love it! We used to search and try to find producers and now everybody’s sending us beats everyday. Look for some KReam Team and Savage Boy collaborations soon.
Unsigned Debut: Explain the mixtape name “Rising stocks and Plastic Glocks”?
DF: We were talking about the perfect mixtape name, it very much explains what we are.
Unsigned Debut: You're working with Grind Up Records now, how is that going?
DS: We couldn’t be happier with our situation right now. Things are only going up.
DF: We are just riding the wave and seeing where it takes us.
Unsigned Debut: Is your ultimate goal to get signed to a major label? If do, to which one?
DF: Of course! I think we bring a lot to the table for any record label, we’re one of the only people doing what we’re doing right now. If I had a choice, Young Moolah Baby!
DS: Someone will see our potential. Hopefully we fit in well with whoever it is.
Unsigned Debut: What projects are out now or in the making?
Both: New mixtape dropping soon! and our first EP.
Unsigned Debut: Where do you see yourselves in the future?
DS: Kissing babies.
DF: On a boat with Ashley Tisdale, I am in an all white suit and have an oversize cigar in my mouth. I take a drink from my # 1 dad coffee mug and pour some out for my homies.
Unsigned Debut: What matters more now than anything else?
Both: Having fun everyday, feeding the streets, and being thankful for every opportunity that we’ve been given.
THANKS UNSIGNED DEBUT BABY!
